Final Fantasy fact #141

just-use-a-phoenix-down:

A promotional image of Noctis sitting on his throne mimics a pose of a promotional image of Sora from Kingdom Hearts. It is worth noting that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is further connected to Kingdom Hearts through similar battle system.

KHInsider: Kingdom Hearts Trivia: #32

khiseta:

Nomura was asked by the project and menu leaders of KHII to hand-write the text in Jiminy’s photo album within the journal. These notes were “written by Sora,” so you can say that Sora and Nomura share the same handwriting. However, this is exclusive only to the Japanese version of the game.

Many thanks to The Key of Destny for the images!

I’m so envious that this was exclusive to the Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix! This was such a unique and fresh way to bring new life into the journal, though asking Director Nomura to write all those notes in every language the game released in would definitely have been too much!

KHInsider: Kingdom Hearts Trivia: #31

khiethy:

Now, depending on how you interpreted Setzer’s personality in Final Fantasy VI and Kingdom Hearts II, you may find yourself disagreeing with this piece of trivia. To most, though, you’ll probably agree that Setzer’s personality between the two games was radically different. The core of his personality was there in Kingdom Hearts II––a risk-taker who gambles for everything in his life––but he was a lot more cocky and underhanded.

In Kingdom Hearts II, during the struggle match in Twilight Town against Roxas, Setzer tries to bribe Roxas by telling he’ll make it worth his while if Roxas throws the match. Some argue that the Final Fantasy VIversion of Setzer would never do something like that.

Some take it further, believing that Dissidia: Final Fantasy addresses the personality discrepancy found between Final Fantasy VI and Kingdom Hearts II’s Setzers. In the Duel Colosseum manual found in Dissidia, Shadow says “Don’t even think of bribing your opponents to lose”, to which Setzer responds back with, “What’s that about? I would never stoop to that!” If Setzer meant that seriously or if he was being sarcastic, that is up to you to decide.

Do you think it was a reference to his personality in Kingdom Hearts II, or are fans just over-thinking things like always? It’d be great if it was an intentional reference, but personally I’ve always thought Setzer was a less-than-noble man. Tell us down on the forums and don’t forget to catch up on all of our past trivia!

Kingdom Hearts Trivia: #25

After what seems like months and a million news updates later, trivia is now back! We’ve got a lot of great stuff we want to show you while we patiently wait for more news on the localized version of Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance]! So sit back, relax, and do keep your hands and feet inside of the gummi ship at all times!

Unless you have been keeping up with the latest Digimon series, you probably didn’t know that Quinton Flynn voices the main protagonist, Marcus Damon, on Digimon Data Squad. What does this have to do with Kingdom Hearts, you ask?

In episode twenty of Digimon Data Squad, Marcus begins talking about how he remembers everything about his first house. “I remember my first house! Every little nook and cranny of it. I got it memorized all right here.”Yep. That’s what he says. Even points to his head. Don’t believe me? Just take a look at the video below.

Quinton Flynn and Jeff Nimoy, voice director of Digimon Data Squad and longtime friend of Quinton, explained at Youmacon 2007 that the scene in Japanese was “I have a scar here from when I fell down.” When Quinton saw the scene while dubbing, he knew they had to add Axel’s catchphrase to the scene.

Worked out well, didn’t it? So while this isn’t exactly about the series, it’s great to see references being made to the series in other popular series like Digimon! Kingdom Hearts Trivia: #28

khiseta:

As you probably know, Monstro from Disney’s Pinocchio was used as an entire world in the original Kingdom Hearts. Well did you know that Monstro was also going to be a boss Sora, Donald and Goofy fought while traversing on the Gummi Ship? The development team ran into some difficulties programming the massive whale though, and it was eventually cut from the game.

Personally, I would have really enjoyed to scuffle around with Monstro before being sucked in by him. Not only that, but it would make their efforts to avoid the oncoming space traveling aquatic mammal seem more realistic too!

How do you feel about this Gummi Ship battle that could have been? Well come fly onto our forums to talk about this fun fact as well as our entire trivia archive!

Oh yeah, and this was the reason why Monstro became an arena battle in BBS:Final Mix.

An Unsung Hero: Kingdom Hearts Trivia: #22

khiethy:

It is not news to any fans that Leonard Nimoy, know for his iconic role as Spock in the sci-fi franchise Star Trek, voices Master Xehanort in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. It is also well known by the fandom that Mark Hamill, who is best known by his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, voices Master Eraqus in the same game.

Something not many know is that Nomura personally requested for the both of them to voice their respective characters because of their past roles as Spock and Luke Skywalker.

Considering the conflict between the two characters in the game, it seems almost like an extension of the age old debate, “Star Trek versus Star Wars.” At least we found out Nomura is a big science fiction fan!

Kingdom Hearts Trivia: #14

khiseta:

Composer Yoko Shimomura decided on Italian lyrics for the chorus of “Destati” as it was a language that could be listened to and not understand immediately like with English or Japanese. Other languages considered were German and Latin.

Although there are only 76 tracks on the KH1 Original Soundtrack, Shimomura actually composed 99. Why 99? Because she didn’t want to have more than 100.

All together, Kingdom Hearts has over 15,000 individual sound tracks in the game. Note that sound tracks include things like the sound of footsteps, the clinking of the Keyblade’s keychain, and other sound effects.

Going to guess Dream Drop Distance has way more than 99 tracks on the OST. Wish you knew what the other 23 tracks were? Think Shimomura should release them on an album one day? Come discuss this with us on the forums along with the rest of our daily trivia!

Kingdom Hearts Trivia: #13

khiethy:

Before speaking with the staff, Nomura had chosen over 20 worlds to include in Kingdom Hearts, including original worlds.

To whittle them down, worlds were chosen based on popularity, if there were interesting characters to play as, and if there were interesting places to be in, in that order.

Nomura was like a kid in a candy shop, wasn’t he? I know I’d try and put as many worlds into Kingdom Hearts as possible! Would you have done the same? Come tell us on the forums, and discuss all of the past trivia with everybody!

Kingdom Hearts Trivia: 10

khiseta:

In Kingdom Hearts II’s ending where Sora is reading the letter Kairi wrote, the word “starting” is spelled wrong. It is written: “Now I will step forward to realize this wish. And who knows, stating a new journey may not be so hard.”

Source: Kingdom Hearts II Ending

Either this was a complete oversight by Visual Works, the team responsible for all of the stunning CG movies at Square Enix and most famous for their work on the Final Fantasy series, or Kairi just can’t spell. I like to think the latter. Come chat about this and the rest of the trivia on our forums!
