“My heart is my own; no one else’s!”
Weekend Remix: Beat Hop Distance
Song: Memories
By: Jus’ 2 Knice
Based On: Dearly Beloved from Kingdom Hearts
Original Composer: Yoko ShimomuraDearly Beloved is probably the successor to Final Fantasy’ s main theme. By that, I mean that the two tunes share more than just being the themes to two well-known Square Enix JRPGs.
Much like Fantasy, at its core, Dearly Beloved is a beautiful, simple and short melody piece that always maintains its beauty no matter how many changes it seems to go through in each game of the series. It’s also instantly recognizable despite whatever Yoko Shimomura and company have decided to alter or add in Kingdom Hearts titles.
In a way, you could say the same for Jus 2 Knice’s remix of the tune, which goes through more of a hip-hop transformation.
Honestly, the change isn’t that radical. The drums or additional synths or keys never dominate the piano-piece loop in Memories. Yet at the same time, the loop never overshadows what’s added to the rest of the song. While there’s a bit more of a groove to this song than Beloved, the haunting chill that floats around the original is definitely intact in this remix.
There’s a natural balance going on that’s simply a dream.

Until next weekend…GO Party!
